ASCE SNB Life Members Forum has produced a book entitled "From the SPanish Trail to the Monorail: A History of Civil Engineering Infrastructure in Southern Nevada"
This book is a compilation of the major investments in infrastructure made in Southern Nevada from the mid 1800's to the present. It spans infrastructure development from the Old Spanish Trail in 1848 that facilitates trade in the southwest, to the construction of Hoover Dam in the early 1900's, to the construction of present day infrastructure such as the Hoover Dam bypass bridge and the River Mountains water treatment facility. The book is meant to develop a better appreciation of the stroies behind infrastructure and how this impacts the quality of life for Southern Nevadans. It is arranged in chapters chronologically and major sectos including water, mining, highways, railroads, wastewater, Hoover Dam, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada Test Site, Flood Control, and the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository. The description of this infrastructure is mixed together with stories of influential people that paved the way for a prosperous Southern Nevada.
