2016 WOW! THAT'S ENGINEERING
|
Summer is here and kids are out of school. Some of our members and younger members volunteered at this year's engineering summer camp hosted by UNLV Engineering and Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The camp was held June 8-10th at Northwest Career and Technical Academy (NWCTA) and was also covered by KSNV Channel 3 News. For video, please follow link HERE. The camp welcomed 30-50 middle school girls over a 3-day period, encouraging young girls to learn about engineering, math and science. The duration of the camp included activities such as building a rubber band car, lighting your name with LED lights, building bridges and making chemical balloons! |
2016 GOLF TOURNAMENT
This year's tournament was held on May 20th at Las Vegas National Golf Club. A quick lunch was served before the 1pm shotgun start. A dinner buffet followed with some great raffle prizes donated by many local firms. If you missed out this year, don't forget to put it on your calendar for next year!

2016 MULTI-REGIONAL CONFERENCE
The 2016 Multi-Region Leadership Conference was held in Anchorage Alaska this year on January 22-23, 2016. The conference included the workshop for Section and Branch leaders (WSBL), the Western Region Younger Member Council (WRYMC), and the workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL). We had great representation from Southern Nevada with 2 Branch Members, 10 Younger Members and Student Chapter Members!
In addition to the Region 8 & 9 Younger Members endorsing Kristina Swallow for 2017 President-Elect, the Younger Members presented to host WRYMC 2018 in Las Vegas and won with a unanimous vote! We are all looking forward to see what great things the YMF’s will come up with for this conference in January 2018! Needless to say, everyone enjoyed the great views of Alaska with a wildlife tour, fish hatchery tour, port of Anchorage and Landfill tour in the minimal daylight hours. Younger Members enjoyed the excitement of sledding and snow, but everyone got a thrill out of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck on the final night! Needless to say, everyone made it home safe and sound with only minor aesthetic damage to the hotel. |

Each year APWA and ASCE collaborate to host a picnic for all members and their families. This year's picnic was held at Red Ridge Park where yard games, a bounce house and friendly competitions were enjoyed by everyone of all ages. The kids especially enjoyed the cotton candy and popcorn machines! Members participated in a 3-legged race, sack race and water balloon toss.
The local ASCE Younger Members put together some great music and entertainment while beverages and BBQ from John Mull's Meats Road Kill Grill were enjoyed. Big thanks to VTN who sponsored the Bounce House and GCW who also sponsored adult beverages. |
